John is a writer and documentary photographer dealing primarily with conflict, displacement and their longterm repercussions. He is the author of Those Who Should Be Seized and has been published by Harper’s, National Geographic, Wired, GQ, Rolling Stone, Businessweek, The Atlantic and many others.
He won the 2017 Kurt Schork Memorial Award for his coverage of the Battle for Mosul and has been shortlisted for a number of other honours including the Bayeux-Calvados Awards for war correspondents. He was the 2019 Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism fellow and is a Pulitzer Center grantee.
